July Newsletter

Dates for the Diary July Tuesday 11th COM meeting at noon. Tuesday 18th Club BBQ 12 noon August Sunday 13th 'Taste of Croquet' Day

Vice President's Report Defibrillator Training A most informative and entertaining presentation by Adrian of Vital First Aid Training Services, provided members who attended the defibrillation training and update, Tuesday 20th June, with an important and possibly life saving skill. In addition, our defibrillator was thoroughly checked by Adrian and advice given on the battery update together with other hints on our equipment.
The attendance was very disappointing. However, thirty percent of the members who did attend were employed in nursing careers in their working lives. This indicates the value they placed upon the importance of ensuring that the information and skills are regularly refreshed.Thank you to Players’ Representative, Sue Higgins, for organising the visit by Adrian and to Julie Miller who was able to provide the details of this valuable contact. Bob Howie thanked Adrian on our behalf.

Fees The membership fee of $450 is due by 21st July Payment can be made by EFT (ensure that your name identifies your deposit), or at the club by cash or cheque. If paying by cash, please ask another member to check the payment and counter-sign the envelope in which the money is placed for deposit in the clubhouse box. EDSACC Croquet Club BSB: 633 000 Acc: 160 199 626 If you don’t intend to renew your membership, please advise a COM member and return your key. All payments must have been received in full by 30th September. Affiliation fees to CNSW, are then paid based on the number of fully paid-up members at 30th September. After that date, you are no longer a member of EDSACC Croquet Club if full payment has not been received. In addition, if you haven’t fully paid the fees at the time of the August GM and AGM, you may attend, but you cannot vote. AGM – Positions Vacant The AGM will be held Tuesday 15th August, following the General Meeting. All COM positions will become vacant. This would be an excellent opportunity for members interested in the club’s management but are perhaps reluctant to step up to the task. There are many experienced members at our club who have served on past Committees of Management and on the current COM, who would be more than willing to advise and assist you in your new role. Nomination forms will be available later in July. Gail Cannon, Vice President

From the Games Captain

EDSACC is being well represented this year in the AC Pennants competition. We wish them well in their upcoming games. Line marking is on track for Gateball and when completed, will be advertised for all to experience whether they would like to be regular players of such a different, faster, and fun croquet code. Tuesday 11:00am will be the initial day for Gateball Play with 2 x 30 minute games. Saturday Ricochet now has the option for 2 x 1.15 hour 14 point games as well as 1 x 26 point game. All games start at 9:30 on Saturday. The 2nd RC game will then commence at 11:00am for the winter schedule. A Taste of Croquet Day (for the other 3 codes of play) is scheduled for Sunday 13th August. Arrive at 9:30am for a 10:00am start to help set up the lawns. Each of the 3 codes will be allocated a lawn where 3 x 40 min rotating sessions will be conducted for each group. The COM is providing a free sausage sizzle for lunch. Bring a plate of something sweet to share (if you would like) with a cuppa after the sausage sizzle. Dress in mufti (or could be fancy dress, as yet undecided). A sheet will soon be at the club to add your name if attending…which will be needed for lunch catering purposes. Come and enjoy the fun. A reminder to give the Draw Marshalls some breathing space whilst they are arranging the next draw, rather than hovering over the top and adding your 'two cents' worth. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Happy Hooping. Cheryl Patterson, Games Captain

Coaching News Thank you to Anita Beer for running a very informative session on clearance shots on June 15. The next group session will be on Thursday July 20 during second game. This time we will be concentrating on hoop running. Sue Yule, Coaching Co-ordinator

Welfare Carolyn McNamara is still quite immobile after breaking her kneecap but is relatively pain-free now. Felicity Mead has finished her radiation treatment & after a long recovery period is now back playing again. Kathy Porter started chemotherapy treatment for her mouth cancer recently and our thoughts are with her at this stressful time. Gail Cannon has broken her foot walking Becky....you can't blame Becky this time though.....wishing her a speedy recovery. Anita Beer, Welfare Officer

Social BBQ The next BBQ will be held on Tuesday 18th July, so save the date. It will be Chicken Souvlaki and cost is $7 Please remember to put your name on the list. A reminder will be included in morning notices closer to the date, and most important!!!! Please pay prior, either direct to the EDSACC account or cash in the envelopes at the rear of the clubhouse and into the locked box, or you will not be catered for. Linda Frazer, Social Co-Ordinator
