January 2023 Newsletter

Dates for the Diary January 10th noon COM Happy Croquet New Year from the COM. Hoping everyone had a pleasant time over the holiday period and we look forward to welcoming you back to the lawns soon. Bob Howie, President

Toronto Ricochet Friendly Seven EDSACC players travelled to Toronto, Thursday 8th December, where we were warmly welcomed by members of the Toronto Croquet Club. Two games of ricochet were played and, as usual, the Toronto players excelled themselves with a lovely morning tea and their friendly hospitality. Following our games, we went to Toronto RSL to enjoy lunch and the company of our hosts. In addition to our ricochet event, on a couple of occasions, EDSACC players joined Toronto golf croquet players for an enjoyable morning of croquet.

Back at the EDSACC clubhouse, mah-jong was played by many members, as they spent a pleasant time in friendship and fun. Learning to play mah-jong presented several newcomers to the game, with the skill to participate in mah-jong afternoons in the future. Summer Playing Times When our lawns are back in play, we will commence summer playing times. Game 1: 8.00am to 8.50am Morning Announcements Game 2: 9.00am to 9.50am Morning Tea Game 3: 10.10am to 11.00am Game 4: 11.10am to 12.00 noon Lawns Update Dobell and Grant lawns are progressing very well and the greenkeeper will commence this week, gradually cutting them back to playing standard. He is going to undertake yet another top up of soil and fertiliser on Ourimbah and Wailes, in an effort to work towards a more level playing surface and to provide a stronger growing bed where soil coverage is very thin. Earlier problems with the sprinklers on these two lawns have not allowed them to recover as quickly as the top lawns. Gus contacted ABC Pumps who has managed to get things operating. However, replacement of our current system of irrigation, which is outdated and struggling, is now a consideration. It is expected that play will commence within two weeks. Gail Cannon, Vice President
